Lunch was at a reputable local restaurant where we enjoyed a wide array of authentic Vietnamese dishes, including phở, fresh spring rolls, and clay-pot fish. Vegetarian options were readily available upon request.
Afternoon: Culture, Religion & the Old Quarter
The afternoon took us to the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university, built in 1070. Walking through its courtyards, we felt immersed in centuries of scholarly tradition and beautiful Confucian architecture.
We then visited the tranquil Tran Quoc Pagoda on West Lake, the oldest Buddhist temple in Hanoi. The peaceful setting was ideal for photos and reflection.
Finally, we arrived at Hoan Kiem Lake, where legend meets reality. The historic Ngoc Son Temple and iconic red-painted The Huc Bridge added charm to our walk around the lake. To conclude the tour, we enjoyed a 30-minute cyclo ride through the Old Quarter, experiencing the hustle, flavors, and street culture of Hanoi up close.
By 4:00 PM, we were back en route to Ha Long Port, with plenty of time before cruise boarding.
